Queer Family

Attending a straight friend’s wedding, I feel incredibly jealous. I recently broke up with my girlfriend of three years, and I was sure I would be the first to get married. People say celebrations are reciprocal, but as a queer person, I wonder if I will ever get my wedding gift money back. While I hope that same-sex marriage is possible, I question whether the institution of ‘marriage’ is truly necessary for living well together.
